The Thirlmere Way:
A Long-distance Walk from Manchester to the Lake District

Tim Cappelli

Tim Cappelli has written a guide to the Thirlmere Way that all ramblers, walkers and outdoor people will enjoy, stretching from Manchester to the Lake District.

This 130-mile walk takes the reader along the route of Manchester's water supply, describing its history and geography, and leading eventually to the flooded valleys of Thirlmere in the Lake District. It is conveniently split into 10 sections, each of which contains maps, route descriptions and notes on public transport and overnight accommodation. The flora and fauna to be seen along the route are described to further enhance the enjoyment. As each section is relatively short, even walkers with modest ambitions will be able to tackle the entire walk as a `holiday with a difference'.
An added bonus is the history of the aqueduct, always running near to this particular walk. Insights are given into how the aqueduct was constructed and how it links up with the local water supply. After you've returned from this walk, a glass of water will take on a new meaning!
Tim Cappelli has an honours degree in Environmental Biology and has been a walks guide for the CHA all over Britain.
Aimed at visitor and tourist alike; all walkers will enjoy discovering unspoilt areas surrounded by beautiful scenery. Although perfect for the more experienced walker, this book also caters for those who prefer a day, rather than week, on the move.
